“There’s no ‘clock watching’ in our lab! The variety of assays I perform at IIVS is really interesting. Plus, we are involved in the testing programs from start to finish and learn how to interpret the data and relate this to in vitro toxicology. The daily variety and education I get at IIVS keeps me interested right up to the end of the day.” - an IIVS biologist

The biologists at IIVS perform basic technical assignments in the performance of in vitro or cell culture studies. They typically have a BS degree in the biological sciences and are responsible for performing, recording, and reporting data from studies and generating GLP compliant reports. They perform peer reviews of data, reports, and batch records and use and maintain the scientific equipment in the laboratory. The biologists may also assist Study Directors or conduct some specialized techniques with moderate supervision.

The biologist training program at IIVS is designed to make each person competent in the fundamental techniques of in vitro assays such as micro-pipetting, aseptic technique, cell culture and microscopy. In addition to training on the fundamentals, each biologist is cross trained to perform a variety of assays and is educated on protocol choice and design. This working environment provides a flexible workforce and a stimulating role.
